Transfer Erica Thompson Joins Women's Basketball Team

Sept. 15, 2009

ATLANTA – Erica Thompson, who played basketball the last two seasons at Alabama A&M, has joined the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team as a walk-on, head coach MaChelle Joseph announced Tuesday.

Thompson, who must sit out the 2009-10 season due to NCAA transfer rules, will have two years of eligibility remaining. The 5-5 guard started 24 career games and played in 48 her two seasons with the Bulldogs. She averaged 2.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.8 steals.

“I am excited to welcome Erica to our women’s basketball team and family,” Joseph said.”Her work ethic and personality separate her. I have enjoyed watching her in individual workouts and I believe her presence in practice everyday will make us better. Her speed, quickness and athleticism remind me of Jacqua Williams.”

Thompson is a native of Stockbridge, Ga., where she attended Dutchtown High School.
