THE FLATS – Georgia Tech indoor track and field readies for its second meet of the year when it heads to Nashville, Tenn., for the first of three indoor meets in the Music City: Vanderbilt’s fourth annual Commodore Invitational.
The meet is scheduled to begin on Friday, Jan. 12 with field events at 5 p.m. and running events at 8 p.m. The Invitational will conclude on Sunday, Jan. 13 with running events beginning at 11 a.m. and the field events at noon.
Georgia Tech will face a ultra-competitive field features nationally ranked Florida (men’s preseason No. 1), as well as Vanderbilt, Auburn, Austin Peay, Belmont, Charleston Southern, Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee, Murray State, South Alabama, Tennessee Tech, Trevecca and UTEP.
Coming off a fine outing in the Purple and Orange Invitational, Jeanine Williams paced the Jackets with the lone first-place finish of the day, taking the 60m hurdles title with a personal-best 8.20 time. The women also featured four top-5 finishers (Hannah Petit, Rebecca Dow, Rebecca Entrekin and Gabrielle Gusmerotti) in the 5000m run.
For the men, Daniel Pietsch led Tech in the 600m, finishing third overall with a time of 1:20.55, withTy Brooks also finishing sixth (1:20.89). Avery Bartlett turned in a top-5 finish in the 1000m run (2:27.24), while Sam Costa finished sixth in the 3000m run with a time of 8:38.29.
