Sept. 3, 2009
After several hours of discussion, the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team decided its 2009-10 theme would be The Pursuit of Gold. This saying can mean many different things so we asked the players what it mean’s to each of them. Here are their responses.
#35, Brigitte Ardossi, Forward
“The Pursuit of Gold sounds like a race to me. In our case a race for gold or a championship. In order for us to reach our goal (or gold), we have to all run and win our own individual races. Whether that is shooting a few extra free throws, we all need to win our own gold and give it our all individually. We need to what is required of us and more in order for the team to reach our team gold.”
#33, Tiffany Blackmon, Center
“The Pursuit of Gold means that we are striving to be the best. This means in all aspects of life, not only on the court but in the classroom and community as well. This year our basketball goals have changed. We may not have accomplished everything we wanted to last year but that is not stopping us at all. This year we are setting them even higher. For example, our goal before was to make the Sweet Sixteen, but with the talent and team chemistry we have this season, the Sweet Sixteen is not good enough. We are aiming to go even further.”
#23, Deja Foster, Guard
“The Pursuit of Gold means the Pursuit of Excellence. It means that we are striving to be the best and will not settle for less.”
#22, Alex Montgomery, Guard/Forward
“The Pursuit of Gold is doing what ever you can do to reach your goals that you have set for yourself.”
#14, LaQuananisha Adams, Center
“The Pursuit of Gold means that we are willing to do whatever it takes in order to make it to the NCAA Championship and win. Our defense will stop anyone who gets in our way. Silver is not good enough for Georgia Tech women’s basketball. We want to win the gold.”
#2, Mo Bennett, Guard
“To me, the Pursuit of Gold means striving to be the best we can be and finally reaching our full potential. Also, be the end of the season, proving to everyone that we are one of the best programs in the nation by fullfilling our goal of a Final Four appearance.”
#45, Sasha Goodlett, Center
“The Pursuit of Gold means pursuing something that seems unreachable but only the team with the greatest desire and work ethic will achieve it.”
#32, Chelsea Regins, Forward
“The Pursuit of Gold means we will stop at nothing to get the gold. We will no longer settle for silver. We will do what it takes to get the gold, no matter how hard we have to fight. We will not settle for anything less.”
#5, Metra Walthour, Guard
“The Pursuit of Gold means not only going after the goal of a Final Four appearance or a championship … but also the pursuit of being the best Georgia Tech team, at our defense, offense, chemistry and all the little things that will help us get to the championship.”
#24, Shayla Bivins, Center
“The Pursuit of Gold means that the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team is pursuing the best both on and off the court. On the court, we are working harder than anybody so that we can be the best we can be. We are also pursuing gold in the classroom by participating and being attentive in class and also in the community by working with youth and setting an example for everyone.”
#44, Jasmine Blain, Guard/Forward
“The Pursuit of Gold means to do whatever it takes to achieve your own and the team goals.”
#10, Danielle Hamilton-Carter, Forward
“It means to do whatever it takes to reach both the team’s and individual goals. For me, it is an opportunity to be the ebst that I can be everyday; be a good role model and an inspiration both on and off the court.”
#3, Sharena Taylor, Guard
“I think the Pursuit of Gold is the pursuit of nothing less than excellence. There is not greater tangible measure of success than recieving the gold. It is the highest award and achievemen. It is not coming in second or third; but it is No. 1. It represents a champion, the perserverance, sacrafice and hard work. If you do not strive to be the best and be acknowledged as the best in your craft, then why do it? No one goes all out and remains satisfied with second or third place. To me the Pursuit of Gold is the attempt for EXCELLENCE.”
