ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team will look to extend its Atlantic Coast Conference win streak to four when it hosts Wake Forest in the regular season finale for both teams on Monday night, in a game that will tip off at 7 p.m. at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. The game will be televised on the ACC’s Regional Sports Network, which includes Fox Sports Net South and the Sunshine Network.
The Yellow Jackets (18-9, 7-8 ACC) extended their unbeaten streak to three games against NC State on Thursday, recording the largest road win over the Wolfpack in program history with a 78-60 victory. Wake Forest (13-13, 3-12 ACC) will look for its second-straight win after defeating Clemson on Thursday night.
Tech’s improved defensive pressure and its smaller lineup has allowed the Jackets to hold its last three opponents to an average of 59.7 points, while scoring 80.7 points per game in those contests.
The Jackets shot a season-high 52.9 percent from the field against the Wolfpack, surpassing the 50 percent shooting mark for only the second time this year. Included in that was an 8-for-15 (.533) shooting night from three-point range, as Tech is now the third-best three-point shooting team, percentage-wise, in the ACC.
In the game with NC State, junior forward Fallon Stokes, was sensational, netting a game-high 25 points, while just missing a double-double with a game-best nine rebounds. The Atlanta native finished the contest 12-for-18 from field.
Stokes was joined in double figures by a pair of rookie guards in Megan Harpring and Mallorie Winn. Harpring followed her ACC Rookie of the Week award with a career-best 16 points against the Wolfpack, including a 4-for-5 shooting night from three-point range, while going 5-for-6 from the field overall. Winn added a pair of threes en route to 10 points in the game, while also leading Tech in assists for the first time in her career with four helpers in the game.
The game with the Demon Deacons will mark the final home contest for Georgia Tech senior center Sonja Mallory, who enters the game as the team leader in scoring (16.6 ppg), rebounding (9.1 rpg) and blocked shots (1.67 bpg). Her rebounding and blocked-shot averages are tops in the ACC, while her scoring average is the third-best in the league.
