Tech Women's Basketball Hosts Clemson on Thursday Night

Jan. 22, 2003

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team will look to snap its five-game losing skid when its hosts ACC rival Clemson on Thursday night in a game that will tip off at 7 p.m. at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. The game will be televised on the ACC’s regional sports network, which includes Fox Sports Net South and the Sunshine Network.

The Yellow Jackets (11-6, 0-5 ACC) will look to recover from their worst offensive outing of the season against the Tigers (10-6, 2-3 ACC). Both teams will be looking to snap losing skids in the contest, with Tech seeking its first win in ACC play.

Much of Tech’s problems in recent games have come as a result of poor shooting from the field. In its last two games, the Jackets have missed 87 shots and are hitting on just 33.6 (44-for-131) percent of their attempts, while opponents are shooting 41.5 (49-for-118) percent from the floor.

The Jackets have also been outrebounded three times in conference play after being either even or ahead on the boards in all 12 of their non-conference contests. Tech’s rebounding margin has slipped from +11.9 to +8.0 in the last five games.

In the loss to Florida State, the Yellow Jackets continued to struggle offensively, but did get improved defensive play from a number of people. Included in that was freshman guard Megan Harpring, who limited the Seminoles’ Tasheika Morris to just nine points over the final 34 minutes of the game after Morris netted 11 in the first six minutes of the contest.

Freshman forward Kasha Terry came off the bench for the first time this year and gave Tech a spark, netting nine points and recording three blocks. Terry is the ACC’s second-best shot blocker entering Thursday’s action.

Senior center Sonja Mallory found her scoring touch again against FSU, finishing with 16 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the floor, and grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds.

All Georgia Tech women’s basketball games can be heard locally on 91.1 WREK-FM and around the world at www.ramblinwreck.com. Live statistics from the game and game notes can also be found on the Yellow Jackets official website.
