Series Notes

* Maryland holds a 35-14 edge over the Yellow Jackets but are 15-11 versus Georgia Tech teams on their home court. The Terps are 20-3 on their homecourt, but the Jackets are 1-1 on the Comcast Center’s court, the Terps new home since moving from Cole Field House prior to last season.

* These two teams first met on the hardwood in College Park, when the Terps defeated the Jackets by a 94-78 score in November, 1979. That win for Maryland marked the beginning of a 10-0 run for the Terps before Tech earned its first win in the series on January 13, 1986, 73-66, at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

* The Terrapins won the last meeting between the two teams, 91-87 on their home court in January of this year. Although the Terps have won 21 more games, the series has evened out over the last 11 meetings, with Tech holding a 6-5 edge since January, 1999.

Jackets vs. Terps: Last Time Out

Chrissy Fisher scored 17 points off the bench to lead Maryland to a 91-87 win over Georgia Tech at the Comcast Center in College Park. The Terrapins used clutch free throw shooting, converting on 9-of-12 from the charity stripe over the final minute to hold of the Yellow Jackets, who attempted a comeback by scoring 15 points during that time. Georgia Tech shot 90 percent from the free throw line, its best percentage since the Jackets played Wagner in 2000, including converting on 20-of-21 in the second half. Maryland shot just 70.3 percent from the charity stripe, led by seven from Doron and six from Spence. For the game, the Terps shot 49.2 percent while the Jackets hit 46.7 percent of their shots. Fallon Stokes led all scorers in the contest with 18 points as five Yellow Jackets and five Terrapins scored in double figures. Freshman Kentrina Wilson, in her first start of the season for Tech, scored 11 points while pulling down five rebounds and blocking two shots. Mallorie Winn scored 15, including a 10-for-10 performance from the free throw line, while Megan Harpring and April Johnson had 14 and 10, respectively, for the Jackets. Fisher led the Terrapins with 17 points in the contest, while Kalika France added 16 points, six rebounds and three assists for Maryland. Doron and Oliver had 15 apiece and Spence scored 14 for the Terps.

Tech Record Book Versus Maryland

* Maryland’s 30 points versus the Yellow Jackets on February 5, 1996, was the fewest points Tech has ever allowed in a game. Georgia Tech won that contest, 59-30 on its homecourt. That win marked the fourth-highest margin of victory for the Jackets in an ACC game. The very next year, Maryland scored just 40 points to mark the second fewest points allowed in an ACC game and sixth overall for the Jackets as Tech won, 44-40 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

* In 1995, the Jackets set a record for the most three-point field goals in a game when they hit 11 versus Maryland in a home victory, 82-59. The following year, Georgia Tech hit 10 threes versus the Terps in the second-most three-point attempts in history and most in an ACC competition.

* The Jackets have defeated ranked Maryland teams three times in history. The first was an overtime victory at home, 81-80, in 1987 and the last one came against the fourth-ranked Terps, 68-67, at the ACC Tournament in 1992.

* Dolores Bootz (1988) and Fallon Stokes (2002) each hit 15 field goals against Maryland teams, which marks the most field goals against an ACC team in Tech history and third-most overall.

Looking at the Cavaliers

Sophomore Chrissy Fisher made five free throws in the final 29 seconds, sealing the Maryland women’s basketball team’s 76-67 victory over Florida State on Thursday in College Park. Fisher ended the evening with 15 points and nine rebounds. Maryland jumped out to a big lead early on, using a 16-4 run to go ahead 25-11. Freshman Kalika France scored nine of her team-high 16 points during that span. But FSU had a 17-6 run to head into the lockerroom with just a 34-31 deficit at the half. Clinging to a one-point lead at 54-53 with 5:22 left to play in the game, the Terps outscored FSU 12-2 over the next three and a half minutes, stretching their lead to 66-55. Florida State pulled within 69-66 with 34 seconds remaining, but Fisher’s 5-for-6 shooting from the charity stripe and two free throws from France iced the win in the final 29 ticks. France also added seven rebounds to her 16 points. Crystal Washington posted the fourth double-double of her career and of the season, netting 12 points and grabbing a career-high tying 11 rebounds, while Delvona Oliver notched eight points and 10 boards. Leading the Terrapins this season are a pair of freshmen in Shay Doron and Kalika France. Doron is averaging 13.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and has tallied 46 assists and 32 steals on the season. She is the Terps’ top free-throw shooter, converting on almost 79 percent from the line. France averages 11.6 points and leads the team with 5.8 rebounds per game. She has dished out 53 assists and has intercepted a team-high 39 passes by opponents this season. Crystal Washington leads the squad with 29 blocks on the season while Alli Spence has dished out 75 assits for Maryland, which is tops for the team. Spence is also shooting 50 percent from beyond the trhee point line and leads the team with 38 threes on the season, while Chrissy Fisher has added 28 and the pair of freshmen, 18 apiece.

Last Time Out for the Jackets

Fallon Stokes and Megan Isom recorded double-doubles and led five players in double figures in scoring as Georgia Tech defeated Virginia, 65-5,5 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum Thursday night. For the first time this season, Georgia Tech had two players record double-doubles as Isom scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds while Stokes recorded 15 points and 10 rebounds in the contest. The Jackets also had five players in double-figures for the first time since they faced Maryland at the first part of January as Alex Stewart, Megan Harpring, and Jessica Williams each added 11 points apiece. Stewart finished the contest with six assists and five rebounds while Williams pulled down six boards for the Jackets. The Yellow Jackets opened the second half with a 16-3 run, capped by a Kasha Terry jumper with 11:21 remaining to make the score 43-28 in favor of Georgia Tech. The Cavaliers fought back, pulling within four with 35 seconds remaining as LaTonya Blue hit a jumper to make the score 59-55. After mediocre free throw shooting all night, the Jackets made them when it counted, recording six consecutive from the charity stripe to conclude the game, with a pair by Stokes, Harpring, and Isom.
