ATLANTA (Nov. 5) – Sophomore Niesha Butler tied for a game high 17 points, and freshman Nina Barlin dished out 10 assists as Georgia Tech’s women’s basketball squad topped Slovan Bratislava, 83-68, in the Yellow Jackets’ first exhibition contest of the season Friday night in Alexander Memorial Coliseum at McDonald’s Center.
Junior Jamie Kruppa added 11 points and seven steals off the bench for the Yellow Jackets, who seized control of the game early in the second half.
Tech led 40-31 at halftime and used an 8-1 spurt in the first two minutes of the second half to go up 48-38. The 9-1 run was part of a larger 23-8 run that put the Jackets up 18 with 10:44 left in the game.
Adriana Taskova matched Butler with 17 points to lead four Slovakian players in double figures.
Senior Danielle Donehew added nine points on three three-pointers for the Yellow Jackets, and junior Regina Tate and sophomore Milli Martinez added 8 points each for Tech.
Georgia Tech plays its final exhibition game at 7 p.m. Thursday against the Russian Junior National Team.
