ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team will step out of conference to play the Kentucky Wildcats this Sunday at the Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth at 12:30 p.m. The game will be televised on the league’s Regional Sports Network, which includes FSN South, Comcast SportsNet and Sun Sports.
Tech can also be heard on the Georgia Tech ISP Sports Radio Network, WREK-91.1 FM in Atlanta and online at www.wrek.org. Livestats for the game will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com.
Tech and Kentucky will be meeting for the first time in history this weekend, and the Jackets enter the game with an 11-4 overall record in 2005-06. Heading into Thursday night’s game against Florida, the Wildcats are 11-3 on the season.
The Jackets are led this season by sophomore Chioma Nnamaka, who is averaging 12.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Junior Stephanie Higgs has come on strong of late and is averaging 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game while Janie Mitchell leads the team in rebounding, with 7.5 per game, and is scoring 10.6 points per contest.
Sophomore point guard Jill Ingram leads the team in assists and steals, with 45 and 31, respectively, while senior Kasha Terry is pacing the Jackets with 30 blocks this season.
At the conclusion of Sunday’s contest against the Wildcats, the Miami Hurricanes and Georgia Bulldogs will square off in the second of the two ACC-SEC Showdowns, which is scheduled to begin at approximately 3:20 p.m.
The Jackets will return to conference play next week when they travel to Chapel Hill to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels Wednesday at 7 p.m.
