GREENSBORO, N.C. – The fifth-seeded Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (21-8) will open up the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament against No. 12 seed Miami (9-20) Thursday. Tip-off at the Greensboro Coliseum is scheduled for 11 a.m.
The first round game will be televised live on the ACC Regional Sports Networks (Fox Sports South in Atlanta). Mike Hogewood and Charlene Curtis will call all the action. Tech fans can also listen to Richard Musterer and LaChina Robinson call the game on WREK radio (91.1 FM/www.wrek.org), Georgia Tech women’s basketball’s flagship station.
“We are excited to open up the ACC Tournament with Miami,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “I know our kids are anxious for the opportunity to avenge a loss that we had earlier this year. We are hungry to do something special.”
The Yellow Jackets will meet Miami for the 14th time overall and third time this season. This game will also mark the 11th time the two programs have faced-off since the Hurricanes joined the ACC before the 2004-05 season. Miami holds a 7-6 edge in the all-time series.
The two programs will also meet in the first round of the ACC Tournament for the fourth straight season with the Jackets winning the last two games.
Earlier this season, Tech defeated Miami on a last second shot at home on Jan. 13. The Hurricanes answered with a buzzer-beater win of their own in Miami on Feb. 7.
The winner of this game will go on to face No. 4 Virginia Friday morning at 11 a.m. The game will also be televised on the RSN.
