Sept. 25, 2011

Live scoring and tee times

Burlington, Iowa – Seth Reeves fired a 1-under-par 71 and Anders Albertson added a 72 Sunday to pace Georgia Tech, which posted a 6-over-par 294 and is tied for ninth place after the first round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge.

Reeves, a sophomore from Duluth, Ga., overcame a rough front nine and birdied three par 4s on the back side of the 7,010-yard Spirit Hollow Golf Club, and is tied for 17th place individually after 18 holes. Albertson, a freshman from Woodstock, Ga., had four birdies and four bogeys in his round, and is tied for 22nd place.

Sophomore Bo Andrews added a 75, and Ollie Schniederjans and James White each shot 76.

“It was a tough day, not a very good putting day,” said head coach Bruce Heppler. “But we got a decent round out of Anders and Seth finished very well. We’ve got four guys who are playing their fourth college round, so we’re going to have some days like this and we need to be patient. We need James to play better than he did today.”

Chattanooga led the way on the first day with a 9-under-par score of 279 to take a 1-stroke lead over Arkansas (8-under 280). Host and 2009 event winner Iowa and Oklahoma State are tied for third at 5-under 283. California is in fifth place at even-par 288, followed by Southeastern Louisiana and Kennesaw State, each at 5-over 293.

Tech is tied with Tulsa at 294, followed by Ball state, North Texas, UC Irvine, Xavier and New Mexico State.

The Jackets tee off in round 2 at 10 a.m. Eastern time Tuesday, and the 54-hole event concludes Tuesday.
