ATLANTA – The 2005-06 Georgia Tech women’s basketball team will host Virginia Tech in the final home game of the season this Sunday at 2 p.m. Prior to the game, the Yellow Jackets will honor five seniors that will be playing in their final regular-season game at Alexander Memorial Coliseum, including Megan Harpring, Cheytoria Phillips, Lauren Sauer, Kasha Terry and Jessica Williams.
The senior recognition will occur ten minutes prior to tip-off and will highlight the contributions that these five members have made to the team and Institute. Fans are encouraged to show up early to help congratulate these players on their achievements.
The Jackets (13-11, 2-9 ACC) will be looking for their first win in February, needing just one win over the final three regular-season games (plus the ACC Tournament) to become post-season eligible. Ironically, they will be playing Virginia Tech (17-7, 4-7 ACC) Sunday, the last team that Georgia Tech faced in a post-season tournament, when the Hokies and Jackets matched up in the first round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament. In that game, Virginia Tech pulled out a 61-59 victory in West Lafayette, Indiana, to move on to the next round.
Tech is currently in a three-way tie for 10th place, going 1-1 against Clemson (8-17, 2-9) this season, with a matchup against Virginia (14-10, 2-9) coming up this Thursday.
