THE FLATS – Mott Hyde homered to put his team on the board in the first and #TeamHyde scored at least once in each of the first six innings en route to a 9-2 win over #TeamIsaacs to clinch the White-Gold Series Wednesday at Russ Chandler Stadium.
Hyde’s team, which pounded out 15 hits in Wednesday’s Game 5, won the best-of-seven series 4-1.
Junior RHP Cole Pitts gave #TeamHyde four solid innings, allowing four hits, one run, no walks and three strikeouts to pick up the win. Pitts earned his first decision of the series (1-0), while five #TeamHyde relievers each tossed a scoreless inning to preserve the lead.
Freshman 2B Elliott Barzilli finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and triggered the game-ending 4-6-3 double play in the ninth. Ryan Peurifoy, Keenan Innis, Alex Cruz and Matt Gonzalez each added two hits for #TeamHyde.
Innis and Hyde had two RBI apiece and Peurifoy swiped a pair of bases.
After Hyde’s solo homer to left – his second bomb in as many games in the series, Cruz ripped an RBI single to make it 2-0 in the first. Innis and Hyde drove in runs in the second to stretch the lead to 4-0.
AJ Murray launched a solo shot to right off Pitts in the third to cut into the lead, but back-to-back RBI singles from Grant Wruble and Zac Ryan put #TeamHyde back in command.
Murray finished the day 3-for-4 and scored both of #TeamIsaacs’ runs. Jonathan Roberts, who fired two perfect innings of relief for #TeamIsaacs with two strikeouts, drove in Murray with an RBI single in the ninth.
The series is set to continue with Game 6 on Sunday at 4 p.m., but the schedule may be adjusted. Stay tuned to the team’s Twitter account (@GT_Baseball) and RamblinWreck.com for more information.
