>> Georgia Tech hosts Wake Forest at Russ Chandler Stadium as Atlantic Coast Conference play begins across the league this weekend. The series is underway Friday at 4 p.m. on ESPN3.
>> This season marks the first time since 2011 that the Yellow Jackets will open ACC play at home. Tech has won seven of its last nine ACC-opening series and is 14-6 all-time in ACC-opening series under head coach Danny Hall.
>> Junior Thomas Smith carries a career-best eight-game hitting streak into the weekend and the infielder has pushed his average to .310. He leads Tech in homers (two) and RBI (nine).
>> Redshirt junior RHP Matthew Grimes (1-0, 1.17 ERA) enters the weekend rotation and is slated to start on Sunday. It will mark his first ACC start since March 17, 2012 versus Virginia Tech. Grimes missed most of 2012 and all of 2013 as he recovered from Tommy John surgery.
>> Tech’s five losses have been by a total of eight runs.
>> The Jackets rank fifth in the ACC in ERA (2.38) and are third in fewest walks per nine innings (2.54).
