Special Events Planned For Thursday's Women's Basketball Game

Feb. 1, 2011

ATLANTA – A number of special events are planned for Thursday’s key Atlantic Coast Conference match-up between the 24th ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (18-6, 6-2 ACC) and the 12th ranked Maryland Terrapins (18-3, 4-2 ACC) at 7 p.m. at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

Tech will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day by allowing all girls and women into the game for free. Each entrance at the AMC will be open and those fans can enter without a ticket at any gate.

The Jackets will also be hosting the seventh annual Women Out Front Celebration, which will recognize this year’s class at halftime who have made a significant impact in their individual fields in the Atlanta or in women’s basketball. Women Out Front was started so that the young women who will lead our country tomorrow can show appreciation for those who have paved the way today.

Among those being honored this year will be Amanda Davis of Fox 5 for her work with the “Wednesday’s Child” program which is an effort to find families for Georgia children living in foster care.

As a part of the two events, every Georgia Tech women’s team will be in attendance as well as select, notable alumni.

The Georgia Tech women’s basketball program will also be presenting a check to the Team Tyler Foundation, which was founded in honor of Maryland head coach Brenda Frese’s two-year-old son, Tyler Thomas, who was diagnosed with leukemia in September 2010. The foundation aims to bring awareness to leukemia and children fighting the disease. Additional donations from fans will be accepted at the Wreckin’ Crew booth at Gate 1.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early to avoid parking congestion. The lots at AMC and O’Keefe, as well as the Peter’s parking deck will all open at 5 p.m.
