The Fighting Illini slowly added to their lead with one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead to 4-0. Three runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings put Illinois ahead, 10-1.

The Jackets got on the board in the bottom of the seventh. Draven Sonnon reached on a fielder’s choice and stole second. Malea Bell stepped to the plate and doubled to centerfield to bring in Sonnon.

Freshman Brooke Barfield suffered the loss throwing all seven innings in her debut. Illinois’ Taylor Edwards earned the win, allowing six hits in six innings pitched before Danielle Brochu came in for the seventh inning.
