THE BASICS:
· Thomas Smith’s early three-run home run gave Georgia Tech the lead and Jonathan King was in control as the Yellow Jackets beat Presbyterian, 5-1, in the opener of a three-game series Saturday at Russ Chandler Stadium.
· Saturday’s game was the first game of a doubleheader.
· The victory improved the Yellow Jackets to 27-17 overall, while the Blue Hose slipped to 23-22.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
· Presbyterian scratched an unearned run across in the second inning to grab a 1-0 lead, but that would be all off King.
· A sac fly from Matt Gonzalez in the third inning allowed the Jackets to pull even, and Smith’s three run bomb to left later that frame would stand as the game-winner.
· An RBI fielder’s choice from Bailey in the fourth tacked on insurance for the Jackets.
· After King’s eight strong innings, Matt Phillips tossed a scoreless ninth to end it.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
· King pitched a career-long eight innings, allowing eight hits and one unearned run no walks and five strikeouts to earn his third win (3-3). his previous career-long was 7.1 innings versus Bowling Green last February.
· King retired 12 of the 14 batters he faced over his final four innings on the hill.
· Smith and Peurifoy each had two of the Jackets’ 10, while eight of the nine Tech starters recorded at least one hit.
· Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to seven games.
· Smith’s home run was his second of the year and his third game-winning RBI.
· The victory was Tech’s 13th comeback win this season.
· The loss fell to PC starter Brian Kehner (1-2), who was on the hook for nine hits and five runs in seven innings.

UP NEXT: The Yellow Jackets and Blue Hose play again Saturday at 4 p.m. in the second game of the doubleheader.
