ATLANTA – Georgia Tech rising senior Stephanie Higgs, along with rising junior Chioma Nnamaka received co-offensive player of the year honors for the 2005-06 season, while rookie Jacqua Williams and WNBA Draftee Kasha Terry shared defensive player of the year honors, as announced by the Yellow Jacket women’s basketball staff at the end-of-year celebration, which occurred May 6, 2006.
In a dual celebration of the season and the graduation of a pair of Yellow Jackets, the Jackets handed out numerous awards to those players that impacted the team during the 2005-06 season.
The celebration began by honoring four-year standout Megan Harpring and April Johnson, a two-year member of the team whose career was cut short by injuries, as the two Georgia natives earned their degrees at the Georgia Dome in the morning.
The coaching staff also honored each class within the team for their dedication and hard work during the season.
In addition to offensive and defensive player of the year awards, rising junior Janie Mitchell was presented with the most improved player honor as well as the rebound award, while point guard Jill Ingram received honors for leading Tech in assists during the 2005-06 season.
Cheytoria Phillips was the final Yellow Jacket to receive an individual award, as the senior was given the academic excellence award, while the women’s basketball program honored long-time volunteer Cheryl Lowry with a special service award for her many contributions to the Yellow Jacket program.
