Radakovich, Joseph Contract Extensions Approved

June 29, 2010

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech Athletic Association Board of Directors has approved new five-year contracts for athletic director Dan Radakovich and women’s basketball coach MaChelle Joseph.

Radakovich, who is entering his fifth year at Georgia Tech, and Joseph, who will embark on her eighth basketball season on The Flats, both agreed to terms that extend through 2015.

“I am extremely appreciative of the confidence that (Georgia Tech President) Dr. (Bud) Peterson and the Board have shown in me,” Radakovich said. “And I am very happy to see MaChelle continue to build our women’s basketball program as she has done since she first arrived at Georgia Tech.”

The 2009-10 academic year was one of the most successful in the history of Georgia Tech athletics. Beginning with an ACC championship and a BCS bowl game appearance in football, Yellow Jacket sports teams combined to produce an overall record of 283-80 (.727), the highest winning percent in school history.

Also in 2009-10, the men’s and women’s basketball teams both received NCAA Tournament berths, the baseball and softball teams both hosted NCAA regionals and both finished ranked nationally in the top 25, the golf team advanced to the final eight of the NCAA championships and both men’s and women’s tennis earned NCAA postseason bids.

Joseph has guided the women’s basketball team to four straight 20-win seasons and has compiled a 129-86 record in her seven seasons at the helm. She has also led the team to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2009-10, Joseph’s team recorded a 23-10 record, matching the all-time wins mark in a season in school history and most since joining the ACC prior to the 1979-80 season.

Her 2009-10 team earned a fourth-place finish in the ACC and its first-ever bye in the ACC Tournament before earning a bid into the NCAA Tournament. The year was marked by the development of Brigitte Ardossi, who registered one of the best senior seasons in program history. She earned All-ACC second team honors and became just the fifth Yellow Jacket to be drafted when the Atlanta Dream selected her in the second round. Montgomery earned her second straight All-ACC third team nod and was selected the ACC Sixth Player of the Year.

“I am extremely thankful and appreciative that Georgia Tech, President Peterson, the Board, Dan Radakovich and (Senior Woman Administrator) Theresa Wenzel have offered me a new contract and extension,” Joseph said.

“I am excited about the growth of Georgia Tech women’s basketball and I have tremendous confidence that with their support we will continue to have one of the top women’s basketball programs in the ACC.”
