Prevost & Robinson Round Out Tech Women's Basketball Staff

June 27, 2003

ATLANTA – Art PreVost has been named an assistant coach, and LaChina Robinson has been named an administrative assistant for the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team, Yellow Jacket head coach MaChelle Joseph announced Wednesday.

Prevost most recently served as an assistant coach at Akron last season, where he was the Zips’ recruiting coordinator and community liaison along with his on-court duties. At Tech, he will work primarily with the Jackets’ perimeter players while also assisting with recruiting. Prevost joins assistant coaches Stephanie McCormick and Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick on the Yellow Jackets’ staff.

“I’m very excited to have Art PreVost join our staff because of the experience he brings with him after working in both men’s and women’s basketball,” said Joseph. “Along with his 10 years working in women’s basketball, he also has four years of experience working and coaching in the men’s game. He is a great recruiter, and I know that anyone who can recruit a McDonald’s High School All-American in men’s basketball, can certainly be successful in recruiting the nation’s top women’s players.”

Last season, Prevost joined Kelly Kennedy in her first season at Akron as the staff worked to rebuild a program that went 1-27 in 2001-02. The Zips defeated MAC member Marshall in 2003 for their first conference victory in more than a year. His first recruiting class at the school included six new players, two of which were junior college All-Americans.

Before joining the staff at Akron, Prevost was a member of Minnesota’s men’s basketball staff for three seasons. He served as Minnesota’s director of basketball operations during the 2000 season before being promoted to a full-time assistant coach in the spring of 2000. As one of Dan Monson’s top recruiters, Prevost was responsible for the Golden Gopher’s 2001 recruiting class, which was rated among the top classes in the nation and included McDonald’s High School All-American Rick Rickert. During Prevost’s time at Minnesota, the Gophers participated in the National Invitation Tournament in both 2001 and 2002.

“Art brings a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to our program, and I think he is a great fit for Georgia Tech and our student-athletes,” said Joseph.

A 1990 graduate of Lamar University, Prevost was a two-year letterwinner for the Cardinals. As the team’s point guard, he helped lead Lamar to its last 20-win season in 1988. After graduating, Prevost spent two years on the Lamar men’s basketball staff.

LaChina Robinson, a four-year starter during her playing career at Wake Forest, joins the Tech staff after spending the past season as the championships intern at the Atlantic Coast Conference. She will serve as the team’s administrative assistant, and will oversee the Yellow Jackets’ women’s basketball kids’ club.

Robinson was a four-year letterwinner for the Demon Deacons and earned ACC All-Freshman team honors in 1998. Last year, while working at the ACC office, she assisted in the organization and administration of the league’s 22 championship events.

“I’m very happy to be able to hire a former ACC player to help us with our recruiting efforts here at Georgia Tech,” said Joseph. “LaChina is obviously very familiar with the ACC, having played at Wake Forest and then working as an intern in the conference office last year. I know she will be a great addition to our staff.”
