THE FLATS – Thanks to a season-high 27 hits, the 20th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets smashed four home runs Tuesday afternoon en route to an impressive 21-3 win over Savannah State.
Georgia Tech (32-16) snapped a two-game losing streak. With the win, the Jackets matched their 2015 season win total in seven fewer games.
Tech tied a season high with four home runs – two by junior OF Coleman Poje and one each by sophomore 3B Trevor Craport and senior OF Grant Wruble. Poje finished with a career-high six RBI. Wruble’s career-first home run capped off a seven-run 8th inning for the Yellow Jackets.
Sophomore 2B Wade Bailey led the Jackets with a career-best five hits, finishing 5-for-6 with four runs scored. Senior OF Matt Gonzalez recorded four hits and passed Andy Bruce and current Tech assistant Bryan Prince for ninth on school’s career hits list with 279.
THE BASICS
• With Tuesday’s win, Georgia Tech matched its 2015 season win total (the Jackets finished 32-23) in seven fewer games.
• Georgia Tech is 21-10 vs. in-state opponents since 2014 – the best in-state record of any Georgia Division I program.
• Georgia Tech improved to 7-3 against in-state schools this season.
• Georgia Tech is 16-5 in its last 21 games against in-state rivals.
• Georgia Tech recorded a season high for runs (21) and hits (27). Tech finished three hits shy of the school single-game record (30 vs. Maryland, 1985).

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Georgia Tech scored four runs in the 1st to take a 4-0 lead. Tristin English opened with a bases-loaded RBI single to score Connor Justus. Trevor Craport followed with an RBI sacrifice fly to deep center. Brandt Stallings plated the third run on an RBI fielder’s choice. Carter Hall capped off the scoring with an RBI double to left.
• Savannah State’s only scoring came in the 2nd as the Tigers scored three runs to pull within one, 4-3.
• Tech pulled away in the 2nd. The Jackets scored three runs thanks to an RBI single to Matt Gonzalez and English’s RBI ground out for a 7-3 lead.
• Arden Pabst’s RBI infield single upped Tech’s lead to 8-3 in the 3rd.
• Stallings’ RBI double to center made it 9-3 Tech in the 4th.
• Craport crushed a solo home run to center in the 6th to take a 10-3 lead.
• Tech added four runs in the 7th thanks to a 3-run home run by Coleman Poje for a 14-3 lead.
• Tech capped off its scoring with a season-high 7 runs on 9 hits in the 8th. Poje added his second 3-run home run of the day and Grant Wruble later added a 3-run homer of his own.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Twelve different Yellow Jackets recorded at least one hit.
• Sophomore 2B Wade Bailey went 5-for-6, recording career highs for hits (5) and runs scored (4). The five hits are tied for the most by a Georgia Tech player this season.
• Senior OF Matt Gonzalez tied a career high with four hits, going 4-for-6. With his fourth hit, he surpassed Andy Bruce and current GT assistant coach Bryan Prince for 9th on Tech’s career hits list with 279.
• Sophomore 3B Trevor Craport hit his third career home run.
• Junior C Arden Pabst tied a career high with 3 hits, going 3-for-3.
• Junior OF Coleman Poje hit his first home run as a Yellow Jacket – and third of his career – in the 7th inning. He added a second home run – an inside-the-park homer – in the 8th. He finished 2-for-2 with a career-best 2 home runs and career-best 6 RBI.
• Senior OF Grant Wruble hit his career-first home run.
• Sophomore P Patrick Wiseman and junior P Jonathan King made their career-first college plate appearances. Wiseman finished 2-for-2, while King finished 0-for-2.
• Freshman P Keyton Gibson registered a career-best 7 strikeouts.

No. 20 Georgia Tech travels to Charlottesville, Va., to face No. 14 Virginia. Friday’s game is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET on WREK 91.1 FM.
