TEAM NOTES
• Georgia Tech employed its sixth different starting lineup of the season against Wake Forest. James White re-entered the starting lineup against Wake Forest after a one-game absence, replacing Nick Jacobs and making his 10th start of the season. Tadric Jackson made his first start of the season (he started the final six games of the 2014-15 season), replacing Adam Smith, who had started the first 23 games this year.
• Marcus Georges-Hunt is now the only Yellow Jacket to start every game this season.
• Georgia Tech has won 11 straight games at home in the series with Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons’ last win over the Jackets in Atlanta was an 80-76 decision at Alexander Memorial Coliseum on Feb. 22, 2004.
• Tech trailed at the half for the fifth time in 11 ACC games this season (39-35), and for the sixth time this season. The Yellow Jackets are 2-4 when trailing at the half. The 39 points by Wake was surpassed only by the 42 scored by Pitt against Tech in the first half this season.
• After getting only 18 points from its post players in Sunday’s loss to Miami, Tech got 34 of its 71 points against Wake Forest from those same four players, including double-figure efforts from Mitchell and Jacobs.
• Tech committed 12 turnovers, only the sixth time in 11 ACC games the Jackets have reached double digits, but Tech committed only three in the second half in rallying from a four-point deficit to get the win. Tech ranks fourth in the ACC and 13th nationally at 10.3 per game (10.0 in conference games). Nationally, the Jackets have improved from 195th in the nation last year.
• Tech out-rebounded Wake Forest 38-34 for the game. The Yellow Jackets have out-rebounded 19 of their 24 opponents, with two ties, this season; and eight of 11 ACC foes. Tech remains fourth in the ACC and is 22nd in the nation in rebound margin (+7.2 per game, +3.5 in ACC games).
• Tech had more assists (14) that turnovers (12) for the ninth time in 11 ACC games. The Jackets are 38th nationally in that category (+1.4 per game both in ACC games and in all games) after finishing the 2014-15 season 244th.
• Tech’s perimeter players combined for 12 assists and just three turnovers in the game. • Tech assisted on 14 of its 28 field goals and has assisted on 51.8 percent of its field goals this season, 50.4 percent in ACC games.
• Tech took 13 offensive rebounds and cashed them in for nine second-chance points. The Jackets are fourth in the ACC and 27th nationally in offensive rebounds per game (13.7).
• Tech and Wake Forest each made 13 free throws in the game, marking only the second time in 11 ACC games the Yellow Jackets were not out-scored from the charity stripe. Tech has won the free throw battle only once in ACC play at NC State, hitting 29-of-34 from the line compared to 19-of-24 for NC State. In Tech’s other nine ACC games, the Jackets have been out-scored from the line, 174-100, 128-49 in the second half of those games.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
• Marcus Georges-Hunt led Tech with a career-high 30 points, exceeding the 27 he scored on Jan. 16 against Virginia Tech. He reached double figures for the 19th time in 24 games this season, 82nd time in 118 career games. It was his first 20+ game since scoring 26 at NC State on Jan. 27. He has scored 20 or more eight times this season, 17 times in his career.
• It was the second 30-point game for a Tech player this season – Adam Smith scored 30 at Pittsburgh on Jan. 6. Prior to that, the most recent 30-point game by a Tech player was Iman Shumpert at North Carolina on Jan. 16, 2011 (also 30 points).
• Georges-Hunt has scored in double figures in all six of his career games against Wake Forest.
• Georges-Hunt made 11-of-15 shots from the floor, 7-of-7 from the foul line, had four assists and three steals with just one turnover in 36 minutes.
• Georges-Hunt surpassed Kenny Anderson for 16th place on Georgia Tech’s all-time scoring list, now has 1,519. Georges-Hunt began the season in 35th place on the list. Next on the list is John Salley in 15th place (1,587 from 1982-86).
• Charles Mitchell reached double figures in points and rebounds for the first time since Jan. 27 at NC State (11 points, 10 rebounds). It was his 13th double-double this season, 20th in a Tech uniform, 25th of his career.
• Mitchell’s 15 rebounds were his most since taking 17 at Pittsburgh on Jan. 6.
• Adam Smith nearly went scoreless for only the second time in his career, but canned his only bucket, a three-pointer, off an in-bounds play to give Tech a 66-59 lead at the 1:51 mark. Smith’s only scoreless game happened midway through his sophomore year at Virginia Tech against Notre Dame, after which he missed the remainder of the season with a leg injury.
• Smith has made at least one in every game this season and in his last 26 straight games dating back to last season. He has made at least three treys in 15 games. He has made at least one in 93 of 102 games in his career for a total of 236. His career total would rank sixth all-time Georgia Tech had he played his entire career here.
• In 23 games, Smith has made more three-pointers (73) than Tech’s leader in each of the last seven seasons. They are the most since Anthony Morrow accumulated 81 (in 32 games) in the 2007-08 season.
• Nick Jacobs logged his eighth double-digit scoring game in his last nine, scoring 11 points while hitting 4-of-8 shots from the floor and 3-of-5 from the foul line.. Jacobs has averaged 14.1 points (49-for-93 from the floor) and 6.2 rebounds over that stretch. In ACC games, he has averaged 12.8 points and 5.7 rebounds, and hit an even 50 percent from the floor, 77.8 percent from the free throw line.
• Ben Lammers, the “Laminator,” blocked two more shots against Wake Forest and leads Tech with 31 this season, 17 in ACC games.
