THE BASICS:
• Georgia Tech rallied late, but a five-run sixth inning by Pitt was the difference as the Panthers evened the series with an 8-6 win Saturday at Russ Chandler Stadium.
• Tech scored the game’s final four runs, but couldn’t complete another comeback as the team’s six-game win streak was halted.
• With the defeat, Tech slipped to 31-18 and 12-14 in the ACC, while Pitt improved to 17-30, 7-19.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Back-to-back RBI singles from Kel Johnson and Thomas Smith pulled Tech within 8-4 in sixth after the visitors’ five-run uprising in the top half made it 8-2.
• The Jackets made it a two-run game in the seventh when Matt Gonzalez slapped a two-run double to the gap in right.
• Tech tried to a trigger a rally in the ninth as Kennan Innis led off with a single to left, but Pitt’s Rich Condeelis finished off the Jackets by getting three consecutive outs to nail down the save.
Zac Ryan did his best to keep Tech within striking distance at 8-6, as he allowed a single and a walk to load the bases with no outs in the eighth before picking off a runner at second base and getting two straight punchouts to end the inning.
• For the second straight game in the series, Pitt grabbed an early lead with two runs in the first.
• Ryan Peuifoy’s 2-run single to right tied the game at 2-2 in the second, but Pitt regained the lead with an RBI single from Jordan Frabasilio in the third.
