THE FLATS – For the fifth time this season, Georgia Tech freshman Francesca Pan was named the ACC Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office Monday. Pan posted double-figures in both contests to close out the regular season.
“Francesca has had an outstanding freshman season,” commented Georgia Tech women’s basketball head coach MaChelle Joseph. “She finished the regular season as the leading freshmen scorer in the ACC. I believe she has played like the freshman of the year the entire season. Her stats against ranked opponents are impressive for a freshman.”
For the week, Pan averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game in Tech’s final two regular season contests. The freshman opened play with 12 points in Tech’s win over Clemson last Thursday, before notching her fifth 20-plus point game of the season at No. 17 Miami on Sunday. Against the Hurricanes, Pan posted a team-best 21 points for her fifth-straight game in double-figures and third 20-plus point game in five outings.
Pan is the first Yellow Jacket to record five ACC Rookie of the Week honors since 2010-11. Today’s weekly honor also marks the seventh for Georgia Tech this season as fellow classmate Chanin Scott also earned Rookie of the Week on Dec. 12, while junior Zaire O’Neil was tabbed ACC Player of the Week on Jan. 6.
Georgia Tech is back in action in the 2017 ACC Tournament, opening play on Wednesday against Boston College at 3:30 p.m. The ACC Tournament will take place in Conway, S.C. at the HTC Center.
