No. 25 Georgia Tech Tops Virginia Tech, 78-57

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) Tyaunna Marshall scored 22 points to lead No. 25 Georgia Tech past Virginia Tech 78-57 on Thursday night.

Virginia Tech (9-11, 0-6 ACC), which has lost seven straight, kept the game close for the first 15 minutes and trailed 21-20 after Brittany Gordon’s basket with 6:10 left in the first half. But behind eight points from Marshall, the Yellow Jackets went on a 12-2 run to open a 33-22 lead.

Georgia Tech (18-5, 6-1), which entered tied for second in the ACC standings behind Duke, put the game away early in the second half. After the Hokies cut the lead to 35-29 on a three-point play by Alyssa Fenyn, the Yellow Jackets went on a 24-5 run, taking a 59-34 lead on Marshall’s 3-pointer with 12:36 remaining.

They led by as many as 32 in the game.

Marshall went 8 of 10 from the floor for Georgia Tech, making both 3-point attempts, and 4 of 5 from the free throw line. Sasha Goodlett added 13 points and Metra Walthour had 11.

Virginia Tech, which hasn’t reached 60 points in an ACC game this season, got a career-high 17 points from Fenyn. Gordon added a season-high 13 for the Hokies.
