No. 20 Georgia Tech Goes For Fifth Straight Win Vs. Demon Deacons After earning a big 56-54 win at No. 22 North Carolina on Sunday, the 20th-ranked Yellow Jacket women’s basketball team (18-7, 8-4 ACC) will return to the Old North State for a showdown with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (15-10, 5-7 ACC) in a 6:30 p.m. contest Thursday night at Lawrence Joel Coliseum (WREK 91.1 FM).

The Yellow Jackets defeated the Demon Deacons 71-67 January 12 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Sophomore Tyaunna Marshall led Tech with game-highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds, her second double-double of the season. Senior Sasha Goodlett added 19 points for the Yellow Jackets.

Goodlett led the Jackets with 13 points in the win at UNC and tied for team-high honors with nine rebounds. Senior Metra Walthour added 11 points, while Marshall pitched in 10, eight of which came in the second half.

Wake Forest has won three straight games after losing three straight. In their last outing, the Deacs defeated NC State 70-57, powered by Chelsea Douglas’ career-high 21 points.

In last season’s only meeting, Tech claimed a 54-46 win in Winston-Salem, led by Marshall’s 17 points – 15 of which came in the second half.

Play4Kay: Thursday’s game at Wake Forest and Sunday’s home game against Boston College will both be Play4Kay designated games in which the participating schools will wear pink uniforms and fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of the Kay Yow Foundation, and raising money and awareness for breast cancer research.

This year, Georgia Tech will also be raising money for Amy Hosier, a former Yellow Jacket softball student-athlete who at the age of 28 was diagnosed with breast cancer. In addition, the Yellow Jacket softball team will be collecting money for Hosier. The Jackets will host their annual pink game against Maryland on April 8. The team will wear pink jerseys and auction them off following the game.

Five Of A Kind: Georgia Tech is seeking its fifth straight win over Wake Forest, which would be the second longest streak by either side in the series history. The Yellow Jackets won six straight games from Feb. 11, 1996, through Feb. 26, 1998. The Demon Deacons longest winning streak against the Jackets is four from Jan. 5, 1985, through Feb. 9, 1986.

In The Rankings: Georgia Tech is ranked in both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll for the first time this year. The Yellow Jackets moved up to 20th in this week’s AP poll and are 22nd in the coaches poll.

Georgia Tech has been ranked by the AP in 29 weeks all-time and 25 of those have come under head coach MaChelle Joseph. Tech has been ranked in the coaches poll 13 weeks. This week marks only the 11th time in which the Yellow Jackets have been ranked in both polls at the same time.

The Yellow Jackets own a 36-19 all-time record as a ranked team.

Alphabet Soup: In the NCAA RPI released February 13, Georgia Tech is ranked 17th, fourth in the ACC behind Duke (8), Miami (11) and Maryland (12). In the NCAA’s strength of schedule (SOS), Georgia Tech is 12th nationally and first in the ACC.
