THE FLATS – Five former Georgia Tech players – Anders Albertson, Paul Haley, Kyle Scott, Ollie Schniederjans and Richard Werenski – are in the field for the final stage of the Web.com Tour Qualifying School, which begins Thursday at Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Approximately 156 players will be competing for various levels of membership status on the 2016 Web.com Tour. The champion and ties from the Finals and ties will earn full exempt status, while competitors finishing behind the winners through the 45th position and ties will gain playing status at through the second periodic re-order (see link below for details).
Albertson and Schniederjans advanced out of their respective second-stage events in Plantation, Fla., and Beaumont, Calif., while Scott qualified out of Kingwood, Texas, Haley out of McKinney, Texas. Werenski is in the Finals by finishing in the top 85 of the 2015 regular-season money list.
There is no cut, and all competitors will play 72 holes, alternating rounds on the PGA National Resort and Spa’s Champion and Fazio courses.
PGA Tour – Matt Kuchar finished 14th in the first off-season event, the Hero World Challenge, last weekend the Bahamas. Kuchar was 12-under-par at the Albany Golf Club in New Providence, but finished 10 shots behind Bubba Watson in the limited-field event.
Kuchar and Cameron Tringale are both in the field for this week’s Franklin Templeton Shootout, a two-man scramble/alternate shot/better ball event at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort in Naples, Fla. Tringale is teamed with Camilo Villegas, while Kuchar is playing with Harris English. Both Tech players are past champions of the event. Kuchar and English won in 2013, while Tringale teamed with Jason Day to win last December.
