Nissan #ProJackets Baseball Report

Aug. 23, 2017

THE FLATS — The promotion of not one, but two #ProJacket arms and the continued record-setting season by Charlie Blackmon highlight this week’s Nissan #ProJacket Baseball Report.

With the Colorado Rockies in the hunt for a National League Wildcard spot, Blackmon continues to lead them offensively, as he is hitting .333 with 168 total hits on the year. He has 29 home runs, matching his career high, with 14 triples, 297 doubles, 78 RBIs and a career-high 115 runs scored on the year.

Blackmon returns to Atlanta this weekend with a hot bat, as he has hit .342 with two home runs, a triple, two doubles, six RBIs and 13 runs scored over his last 10 games.

Derek Dietrich and the Miami Marlins are still not out of the wildcard race yet and will look to have a strong few weeks to get back into the hunt down the stretch. Dietrich has hit .281 (9-for-32) over the last 10 games, hitting safely in eight of those 10 contests. He has bumped his average up two points in the last week and continues to improve his numbers with more playing time for the Marlins.

The Marlins are trying to catch Matt Wieters and the Washington Nationals who have a double-digit lead over the rest of the NL East heading into the final five weeks of play. Wieters, who hit a two-run home run on Tuesday night versus the Houston Astros, will look to get back on track to help the Nationals clinch the division early and begin to set their sights for the playoffs.

Blake Wood‘s return to Atlanta last week did not go as planned, as he has struggled over his last two outings for the Cincinnati Reds. However, two other #ProJacket arms were promoted over the last week in their respective organizations.

Fellow righty Brandon Cumpton‘s return from Tommy John surgery continues this year, as he has moved up once again as the Pittsburgh Pirates promoted him to the Indianapolis Indians (Triple-A) on August 21. After starting in Bradenton (Class A – Advanced),  he pitched well with the Altoona Curve (Double-A) over the last two months to be called up to Indianapolis with just over a month left in the season.

Jake Esch was also moved up, as he returned to the San Antonio Missions (Double-A) rotation on August 15, which is where he started the season for the San Diego Padres organization.

Below is a complete list of the Baseball #ProJackets playing professionally this season.
