Montgomery Named to All-ACC Third Team

March 2, 2009

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech sophomore Alex Montgomery was selected by 45 members of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Blue Ribbon Panel to the All-ACC third team, the league office announced Monday.

“Alex is very deserving of her All-ACC recognition,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “She has consistently been one of the top players in the ACC this season. Alex is versatile, athletic and talented. She is one of the hardest workers, day in and day out. We are very proud of her, and it is a great accomplishment for her and our program.”

Montgomery, a first-time All-ACC honoree, ranks 11th in the conference in scoring (13.6) and 12th in rebounding (6.8). The Tacoma, Wash., native also ranks eighth in steals with 2.5 per contest. She has put together one of the best sophomore seasons in school history, ranking in the top 10 in points, rebounds, blocked shots and steals by a sophomore player.

This season, Montgomery has connected on 69 three-point field goals and has moved into program’s top 10 with 101 for her career. She has also registered five double-doubles during the 2008-09 campaign.

The Yellow Jackets (21-8) have earned the No. 5 seed in the 2009 ACC Tournament and will open play against No. 12 seed Clemson at 11 a.m. Thursday
