Kel Johnson Sidelined with Sprained Ankle

March 24, 2015

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech freshman Kel Johnson suffered a sprained ankle in Saturday’s game versus North Carolina. An x-ray of the ankle found no fracture, and Johnson will be sidelined indefinitely as he rehabs the injury. Johnson had started the first 23 games and was hitting .379 overall.

Johnson, a native of Palmetto, Ga., was fourth in the ACC in average (.379), fifth in hits (36), fourth in home runs (seven), fourth in RBI (25) and third in slugging percentage (.705). Of his seven home runs, five had either tied a game or given Tech a lead. His .457 average in ACC play was third-best in the conference.

The Yellow Jackets (16-7, 5-4 ACC) host Auburn tonight at 6 p.m. and are at Louisville this weekend to begin an eight-game road swing.
