THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball signee Kaela Davis was named to the East roster for the 2013 McDonald’s High School All-American Game, announced Thursday.
It is the second high school all-America game Davis has been selected to after being named to the WBCA High School All-America Game presented by NIKE. The McDonald’s game will be played April 3 at the United Center in Chicago, while the WBCA game will be played April 6 at New Orleans (La.) Arena.
“I am very happy and proud of Kaela for being named to the McDonald’s All-American Game,” Georgia Tech head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “That is a huge accomplishment for her and a very well deserved honor. We look forward to having Kaela join our team at Georgia Tech.”
Davis is the second Yellow Jacket signee to be selected to the game and the first since Kasha Terry was named to the inaugural McDonald’s High School All-American Game in 2002.
Davis was named to the 2012-13 Preseason American Family Insurance ALL-USA Girls Team by USA Today Sports. She helped lead Norcross to the Class AAAAA state title as a freshman before transferring to Buford. At Buford, Davis led her team to the Class AA state title in 2011 and a state runner-up finish in 2012. During her junior campaign, the daughter of 17-year NBA veteran Antonio Davis averaged 18.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals. Davis has earned all-state and all-county honors in each of her first three years of prep competition.
Davis has played on various USA Basketball teams, winning gold medals at the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championships in Spain and at the 2011 FIBA Americas U16 Championship. Davis, the godsister of WNBA star Candace Parker, averaged 8.8 points and 3.9 rebounds in eight games at this year’s U17 world championships. Davis was one of only four players selected to play for USA Basketball’s 2012 U18 3×3 team and added a third gold medal when she won the 2012 FIBA 3×3 U18 World Championships.
