Jackets Travel to College Park for Matchup with No. 6 Maryland Thursday

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team, 12-6 on the season and 1-4 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, will travel to College Park for a matchup with the nation’s sixth-ranked team, the Maryland Terrapins, Thursday night at 7 p.m. at the Comcast Center. The game will be broadcast in Atlanta on WREK-FM, 91.1, and online at www.wrek.org. Livestats for all Georgia Tech game are available at www.ramblinwreck.com.

The Jackets are coming off their first conference win of the season this past Sunday, a 66-61 victory over Wake Forest at Alexander Memorial Coliseum, while the Terps stand at 17-2 on the season (4-1 vs. the ACC), with their only losses of the season coming to No. 1 Tennessee and No. 2 Duke.

Thursday’s game will be the 53rd meeting between the two schools, with Maryland holding a 37-15 edge in the series. The Jackets’ last win in the series come three games ago, a 58-57 win in Atlanta. Tech’s last victory in College Park was during the 2000-01 season, when the Jackets won 66-62.

Tech is led in scoring this season by junior Stephanie Higgs, who is averaging 12.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. She currently stands eighth in the ACC in scoring against conference opponents, with an average of 15.6 ppg. Sophomore Janie Mitchell is third on the Tech team in scoring (10.6 ppg), but is leading the squad with 7.4 rebounds per game.

Following the game against Maryland, the Jackets will return to Atlanta for the first of three-consecutive home games against conference opponents on Sunday against Clemson. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 3 p.m. and will be televised by CSS.
