ATLANTA – With a four-game winning streak on the line, the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team will travel across town to face the Georgia State Panthers Wednesday at the GSU Sports Arena in a game that is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on WREK-Radio, 91.1 FM in Atlanta, and online at www.wrek.org, while livestsats will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com.
“Anytime we play Georgia State, or any in-state opponent, we realize that it’s a special game,” said Georgia Tech head coach MaChelle Joseph. “It’s not just any other game, and we know that we have to rise to the occasion.”
The Yellow Jackets (4-0) lead the series with Georgia State, 17-11, including winning the last meeting between the two schools, 72-30, last season at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. Tech has won six consecutive matchups, and 11 of the last 12 meetings, between the two schools.
The Jackets are led this season by a trio of players averaging in doubles figures in scoring, including junior Stephanie Higgs, who leads the team with 13.0 points per game. Chioma Nnamaka and Janie Mitchell are each averaging 10 points per game, while Mitchell leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per contest.
“I think that our players are really excited to play our two instate rivals back-to-back, beginning with Georgia State Wednesday night,” said Joseph. “We know that they are a well-coached team, and that they will be well-prepared heading into the game.”
The Panthers are 1-1 this year after dropping their last contest at Samford by three points.
Following the contest Wednesday, the Jackets will travel to Athens to take on the University of Georgia in a game that will be televised live on CSS (Comcast SportsNet), with tipoff at 2:00 p.m.
