Jackets to Honor Women Out Front Wednesday

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team will hold its second-annual “Women Out Front” event this Wednesday at halftime of the Duke game. The game begins at 7 p.m. at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.

The Women Out Front event is sponsored by the Georgia Tech Women’s Basketball Booster Club and honors women who have made significant contributions to the Atlanta community and southeast region and serves as a message to young women that it is possible for dreams to come true.

This year’s honorees include Betty Jaynes of the WBCA; Atlanta mayor Shirley Franklin; Sue Rosser, Dean of the Ivan Allen College at Georgia Tech; Monica Kaufman Pearson of WSB-TV; Julie Gerberding of the CDC; Rita Owens, Publisher of Atlanta Women’s Magazine; Catherine Brewton of BMI; Stephanie S. Hughley from the African American Arts Festival; Dr. Sue Allen, Assistant to the President of Georgia Tech; Phyllis LaBaw, Associate Athletic Director for Academics at Georgia Tech; and Mollie Simmons Mayfield, the Senior Woman Administrator and Seniors Associate Athletics Director at Georgia Tech.

Previous honorees include Beth Bass (WBCA), Lisa Boone (Smith Barney), Dr. Tammy Bregman (CEO of The Bregman Foundation), Dr. Gail DiSabatino (Georgia Tech, Dean of Students), Rita Gibson (Integral Properties), Dr. Jennifer F. Kelly, Attorney Gwen Keys, Dr. Daryl Kimche, Trudi Lacey (Charlotte Sting), Dr. Betty J. McClendon (Sports Pioneer), Mary McElroy (Georgia State Director of Athletics), Bernadette McGlade (Atlantic Coast Conference Associate Commissioner), Dr. Rogsbert Phillips (Breast Surgeon), Dr. Mahera Philobos (Georgia Tech), Dr. Cynthia Rudert, Justice Leah Ward Sears (Supreme Court of Georgia), Ivenue Love-Stanley (Architect), DeLores Todd (North Carolina A&T Director of Athletics), Tisha Waller (Two-time Olympian) and Dr. Carla Williams (Senior Woman Administrator and Seniors Associate Athletics Director at Georgia).
