THE FLATS – Georgia Tech outdoor track and field preps for a busy weekend, heading to the Florida Relays, Stanford Invitational and San Francisco State Distance Carnival on March 29-31.
The Yellow Jackets join nearly 100 teams over the three days of competition, highlighted by seven nationally ranked men’s and women’s programs: Florida, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Purdue, South Carolina, Penn State, Mississippi State and Tennessee.
Georgia Tech is coming off the Florida State Relays, where it recorded nine personal records and 16 top-5 finishes on the day. Despite individually performing well, the men’s team finished fifth with 81 points while the women’s team finished seventh with 54.
Highlights from last week’s trip to the Sunshine State include Avery Bartlett turning in a career performance in the 1500m to take first place with the second-fastest time in the ACC (3:44.95). Andres Littig finished second overall in the 800m, but first among collegiate competitors with the fastest ACC time thus far (1:49.98).
Also performing well for the men was Ryan Thomas (14.96m) and Preston Smith (15.52m) in the triple jump, while Benjamin Jean (47.63) and Ty Brooks (47.78) led the pack of collegiate runners in the 400m, finishing first and second, respectively, among them.
Shining for the women’s program was Marinice Bauman, who turned in a personal-best, and fourth-fastest performance in the ACC, in the 400m hurdles to take gold (1:00.22). Kenya Collins (13.56) also placed third in the 100m hurdles while the relay team of Brianna Hayden, Jeanine Williams, Collins, and Raven Stewart finished second in the 4×100 with a time of 45.07 – good for the fourth-fastest time in the league.
Amy Ruiz also had a fine day, turning in the third-fastest time in the ACC in the 1500m to finish fourth (4:28.13).
The Florida Relays will be broadcast live on SEC Network+ and available on WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app. Friday’s events will be live from 12:15-1 p.m. ET and 1:25-4:10 p.m. ET while Saturday’s broadcast will air 2:40-3:29 p.m., 4:15-6 p.m., and 6:40 p.m.-7:35 p.m. Broadcast and live results links can be found below:
