AKRON, Ohio – Georgia Tech brought the big bats to Ohio as it hit five home runs to run-rule Akron, 12-0, on Monday night at Canal Park, home of the AA Akron RubberDucks.

Stephen Reid led the Yellow Jackets’ (29-21) offensive night with two home runs, while Andrew Jenkins, Tim Borden II and Kevin Parada also went yard. Parada’s home run marked his 24th of the season, one shy of tying the school’s single-season record.

Also finishing with multiple hits was Chandler Simpson who went 2-for-3 with a walk while Jack Rubenstein went 3-for-4 with a double. Jake DeLeo also came in and went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Getting their third shutout of the season, Tech’s pitching staff shined in the rare Monday night affair as RHP Logan McGuire (4-2) started things off with just one hit and six strikeouts in 3.0 innings. RHP Jackson Finley then came in and dealt a clean, no-hit inning in his second appearance since returning from injury before LHP Josiah Siegel and RHP Marquis Grissom, Jr. slammed the door with a combined 3.0 innings scoreless.

The Zips (13-40) were held to just three hits on the day (Nick Arrivo, Bryant Shellenbarger and Michael Sprockett). RHP Anthony Fett (0-10) received the loss, allowing nine runs on 11 hits in five innings.

Georgia Tech remains in Ohio when it takes on Kent State on Tuesday, May 17. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Golden Flashes TV and WREK 91.1 FM.

Postgame Notes:

  • Kevin Parada hit his 24th home run of the season, tying Mark Fischer who hit 24 in 1997, for second-most in a single season in program history (25 – Anthony Maisano, 1990).
  • Georgia Tech now has 97 home runs as a team, it’s most since the school record of 122 in 2010.
