ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team will play its only exhibition game of the preseason Sunday afternoon as the Yellow Jackets host the Peach State Elite at 2 p.m. at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Head Coach MaChelle Joseph is entering her sixth season on the Flats. Joseph and her staff welcome back nine letterwinners including senior defensive standout Jacqua Williams and ACC All-Freshman Team member Alex Montgomery. The Yellow Jackets also add five newcomers, ranked as high as the No. 6 recruiting class in the nation by All-Star Girls Report, who will make their debuts Sunday afternoon.
“It is exciting to be getting started with this team,” Joseph said. “We have tremendous potential and will be a work in progress the entire season. This is the biggest and most athletic team we have had at Tech and as we learn the system we will be a very competitive team as the season unfolds.”
The Peach State Elite feature nine former collegiate basketball players from around the country. Three members of the team, Nikki Luckhurst of Tulane, Miami’s Maurita Reid and D’Lesha Lloyd of Clemson, all suited up against the Yellow Jackets last season.
Admission to Sunday’s contest at Alexander Memorial Coliseum is free.
Georgia Tech opens the regular season at home on Friday, Nov. 14 against Troy as part of a doubleheader with the men’s team. The women’s game will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 8:30 p.m. against Winston-Salem State.
