ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team, 13-7 on the season and 2-5 in the ACC, will continue its three-game homestand Thursday at Alexander Memorial Coliseum when they host the Florida State Seminoles at 7 p.m.
The Jackets can be heard on the Georgia Tech ISP Radio Network (91.1 WREK-FM in Atlanta) and online at www.wrek.org, with Richard Musterer calling the play-by-play and Kurt Hoyt providing the color analysis. Livestats for all Georgia Tech games can be found at www.ramblinwreck.com.
Tech enters the contest with a 13-7 record after defeating the Clemson Tigers, 83-64, at Alexander Memorial Coliseum Sunday. Florida State has a 12-7 record on the season after splitting its last six games against conference opponents. The Seminoles are 3-3 against conference opponents in 2005-06. Thursday’s game will be the 33rd meeting between the two schools, as the Jackets lead the series, 17-15, with the last meeting coming on February 27, 2005 in Atlanta. This will be the only regular-season meeting of the season between the two teams.
In that game last February, Holly Johnson hit a three-pointer with 9.4 seconds remaining in the game to lift Florida State to a 51-49 victory over Georgia Tech in the Yellow Jackets final home game of the 2004-05 season.
The Jackets’ first win in the series came in Atlanta on November 20, 1980, 97-84, and their last win was in the first game between the two teams a year ago, 59-58, in Tallahassee. The Seminoles’ win in the last game of the series broke a string of five-straight Georgia Tech victories.
The last two games between the two teams have been decided by a total of three points, and four of the last five games have been decided by less than seven points.
Tech is 7-8 against the Seminoles in Atlanta.
Junior Stephanie Higgs continues to lead the team in scoring 12.7 points per game, while Chioma Nnamaka is averaging 12.0 ppg and Janie Mitchell has 10.2 ppg and leads the team with 7.4 rebounds per contest.
Following Thursday’s game against the Seminoles, the Jackets will conclude their homestand with top-ranked North Carolina Sunday.
