Jan. 7, 2006

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team will hit the road for their first game away from Alexander Memorial Coliseum since December 4th when they face the Clemson Tigers Sunday at 3 p.m. at Littlejohn Coliseum in Clemson. The Yellow Jackets have won six of their last seven games and stand at 11-2 on the season with an 0-1 mark in ACC play, while Clemson is 6-9 overall and 0-1 in conference action.

Fans may listen to the Jackets on WREK-FM, 91.1 in Atlanta, and online at www.wrek.org. Livestats for the game will be available at www.ramblinwreck.com.

Tech fell to Miami in its conference opener Thursday night, 75-63, but looks to rebound at Clemson this weekend. The Jackets are just 13-40 against the Tigers, but the two teams split the series a year ago with each team winning on their homecourt. The last two games have been decided by a total of 14 points. Tech owns a 4-21 record in Clemson, with their last victory at Littlejohn Coliseum coming February 23, 2003.

The Jackets had two players record double-doubles against the Miami Hurricanes Thursday night, as junior Stephanie Higgs led all scorers and rebounders with a 21-point, 11-rebound night while recording her second career double-double and sophomore Janie Mitchell knotched 10 points and 10 rebounds in her sixth career double-double, and fifth this season.

Sophomore Chioma Nnamaka has been hot of late for the Jackets, as she is averaging 16.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.7 steals while shooting over 56 percent from the field, including a .556 mark from three-point range, in the last three games.

Point guard Jill Ingram is averaging 3.8 assists and 2.6 steals per game while scoring 7.8 points and pulling down 3.3 rebounds per contest. Kasha Terry again leads the Jackets with an average of 1.9 blocks per game, and the senior is just five blocks shy of cracking the top-three mark in the Georgia Tech career blocks annals.

Following Sunday’s contest, the Jackets will return home to host the Duke Blue Devils Wednesday at 7 p.m.
