GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (21-8, 8-6 ACC) has earned the No. 5 seed for the second straight year in the upcoming 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament, which will begin Thursday, March 5, at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, N.C.
The Yellow Jackets will meet No. 12 seed Clemson (13-16, 2-12) in the first round of the tournament Thursday at 11 a.m. The two ACC designated rivals will meet on the hardwood for the third time this season and the seventh time in the past three seasons. The winner of Thursday’s game will face No. 4 seed North Carolina Friday at 11 a.m.
The Jackets took both meetings from the Tigers earlier this season. The Jackets defeated Clemson, 49-41, on Feb. 1 for head coach MaChelle Joseph’s 100th-career victory. On Feb, 22, Tech’s Deja Foster and Iasia Hemingway each registered double-doubles to lead the Yellow Jackets to an 89-54 road win.
The 32nd Annual ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament is set to tip-off at approximately 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, March 5, and will conclude with a 1 p.m. championship contest on Sunday, March 8. The title game as well as the semifinals showings will be broadcast by Fox Sports Net (FSN), while the 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. games on Thursday, March 5, and Friday, March 6, will be televised on the league’s regional package (RSN).
