Jan. 13, 2017

Day One Results

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Georgia Tech track and field records four career bests on day one of the Commodore Invitational on Friday evening. Day two of competition kicks off at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14.

“We had a good first day with the jumps certainly being the highlight,” said women’s track and field head coach Alan Drosky. “All three women jumped really well, Carissa [Tipler] getting to the final with a personal best in a very competitive field, Donjhae [Jones] had some great jumps, and Dasia had a big personal best. Bailey [Weiland] had some nice jumps in the high jump and is working on some technical aspects that will help her later in the season. The women in the 200m got some good work in, as did the women in the distance medley relay. They’ll all come back in individual events tomorrow.”

Senior Carissa Tipler recorded a career-high mark in the long jump of 5.94m on her way to a ninth-place finish. Sophomore Dasia Smith also tallied a new career-best mark of 5.65m in the long jump.

On the men’s side, Junior William Solomon posted a career-best mark of 7.54m in the long jump on his way to a third-place finish for the Yellow Jackets. Preston Smith also registered a career-best mark in the long jump of 6.64m. The men’s DMR team of Matt Munns, Benjamin Jean, Avery Bartlett and Alex Grady finished fourth with a time of 10:09.26.
