Hamilton-Carter Nets 16 as Sweden Falls to Ukraine

Georgia Tech rising sophomore Danielle Hamilton-Carter finished with 16 points but the U20 Swedish National Team (0-2) dropped an 89-58 decision to Ukraine Friday in opening round pool play of the 2010 European Championships in Liepāja, Latvia.

Hamilton-Carter added a team-high seven rebounds, while incoming freshman Frida Fogdemark finished with seven points and six rebounds in the defeat.

Alina Iagupova led Ukraine with 15 points and eight rebounds while Yuliya Berezynets and Olesia Malashenko both scored 13 points as Ukraine improved to 1-1.

Ukraine scored the first 13 points of the game but watched as Sweden fought back to within 15-7. The Ukrainians answered with a 10-2 run for a 16-point lead, which was 25-11 after one quarter. Sweden would be unable to comeback from the deficit.

Sweden faces Russia in the third game of the opening round pool play Saturday.
