Final Stats

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 16 Georgia Tech women’s tennis squad defeated No. 12 Virginia by a score of 4-3 on Sunday afternoon, improving its record to 13-6 overall and 8-2 in ACC play.

“It was very tough tennis match today,” head coach Rodney Harmon said. “I think the biggest thing for us today was that we played very well in doubles and earned the point, which was key. From there, it was a battle on every court. Paige (Hourigan) did a great job defeating Julia Elbaba, who is No. 16 in the country. That was huge for us. Alexa (Anton-Ohlmeyer) played very well on Court 6 today, and then Alexis (Prokopuik) was able to bring it home, winning 6-3 in the third. This was a good win for us. We have a very tough weekend coming up against Louisville and Notre Dame, so we need to get back to Atlanta and get back to work.”

The Jackets earned the doubles point thanks to the efforts of the Megan Kurey/Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer and Kendal Woodard/Paige Hourigan pairings, who won 6-4 and 6-2, respectively. The Woodard/Hourigan pairing, ranked 19th in the nation, defeated the No. 21 pairing of Danielle Collins/Meghan Kelley of Virginia. Tech won the only singles matchup that went to three sets – Prokopuik’s clinching victory over Victoria Olivarez by a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 – to win the match, 4-3.
