JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Georgia Tech jumpers Bria Matthews and William Solomon competed at the NCAA East Preliminary on Saturday, but both failed to qualify in the triple jump event.

Matthews finished 27th with a leap of 12.65m (41-6) in the women’s event, while Solomon finished 33rd with a mark of 15.11m (49-7) in the men’s event. Competitors needed to finish in the top 12 to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore.

“It’s a disappointing end to the collegiate season for Bria and our team,” head women’s coach Alan Drosky said. “She’s had such an outstanding year and we’re proud of her. But the injury earlier in the week was just too much to overcome in a matter of five days. You have to feel for Bria. Hopefully she can recover well and be ready for the U.S. Junior Championships and Olympic Trials in June.”

“William had a solid performance today,” head men’s coach Grover Hinsdale said. “He moved up several spots from his ranking coming into the meet. I am very sorry that Spencer Allen ended his career at GT with last night’s false start in the 110mHH. Spencer has been an outstanding competitor throughout his time in the program and I am very proud of him.”

Allen was called for a false start in the 110m hurdles on Friday night, an unfortunate end to a very accomplished collegiate career.
