THE FLATS – Chesson Hadley earned his highest finish of the 2014-15 season and two other former Georgia Tech stars finished in the top 20 in last weekend’s Valero Texas Open.
Hadley was steady throughout the windy weekend in San Antonio with scores of 71-72-71-71 for a 3-under-par total of 285 and tied for fourth place. Matt Kuchar tied for 15th with a 1-over-par total of 289, and Bryce Molder tied for 20th at 2-over 290. Cameron Tringale tied for 40th at 6-over-294, while Nicholas Thompson missed the cit.
Kuchar moved over the $1 million mark in earnings this year and has made the cut in all nine events he has played with seven top-25 finishes. Tringale has made the cut in nine of his 12 events, and Hadley has made the cut in nine of 14 events with two top-10s.
Roberto Castro (T-50th) and Richard Werenski (T-71st) both made the cut at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open on the Web.com Tour, while Champions Tour veteran Larry Mize made his fourth cut in four events with a tie for 60th in the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic.
The PGA Tour remains in Texas this week for the Shell Houston Open, where Kuchar lost in a playoff to Matt Jones last year. Kuchar returns this week along with Cink, Hadley, Molder, Thompson and Tringale. The Web.com Tour is off the next two weeks before resuming April 16-19 in Mexico.
The eGolf Tour and SwingThought.com Tour took last weekend off and resume competition this weekend.
