Golfers Slip to Eighth at Carpet Capital Collegiate

ATLANTA – Taylor Hall shot a three-under-par 69 and Georgia Tech posted a one-under-par team score of 287, but the fourth-ranked Yellow Jackets lost ground on the field and stand in eighth place after 36 holes of the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga.

Tech played the front nine of 6,906-yar,d par-72 The Farm Golf Club in five shots under par, but faltered on the back side to slip 18 shots off the pace set by fourth-ranked Clemson entering Sunday’s final round.

Roberto Castro bogeyed four of his last five holes to finish at even-par 72 for his round, while Kevin Larsen bogeyed three holes in the back for a 72 and Adam Cohan played the final three holes in three-over-par for a 74.

Hall, a sophomore from LaGrange, Ga., had only one bogey in his round of 69 after opening the tournament Friday with a 76.

Larsen, with a 36-hole total of 141 (-3), is tied for 10th place individually, while Castro is tied for 25th at 143 and Hall is tied for 37th at 145. Cameron Tringale shot 74 Saturday and is tied for 46th place at 147. Cohan’s 74 gave him a two-round score of 152 and a tie for 72nd place.

Clemson (8-under 280 Saturday, 18-under 558 for the tournament) benefited from an 8-under-par 64 from Ben Martin and took a three-shot lead over first-round leader Alabama, which shot 285 for a 36-hole score of 561 (-15). Florida, with the day’s best score of 276, moved into third place at 569, and Tennessee (281) is fourth at 571. Georgia State and NC State are tied for fifth place at 572.

NC State’s Darren Blair shot a 69 Saturday and maintained the individual lead at 10-under-par 134, two strokes ahead of Clemson’s Vince Hatfield.
