GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech’s Sasha Goodlett was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the week ending Feb. 8, announced the conference office Monday.
Goodlett averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds last week for Georgia Tech. The rookie from Bolton, Miss., has scored in double-figures in four straight games for the Jackets. She tallied a career-high 15 points and dominated the offensive glass at Wake Forest on Feb. 3, and then followed up that performance with a new personal-high of 20 points against visiting NC State. The center’s eight rebounds against the Wolfpack tied her career-best. Goodlett also shot an impressive 55.2 percent from the field during the week. She has now started 21 of Tech’s 23 games as a rookie.
“Sasha is very deserving of this recognition,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “She has worked hard and has become a force on the inside for our team. I am very proud of her and happy for her. She is a tremendous student-athlete and I am excited that she is getting the recognition she deserves.”
Goodlett is the second Yellow Jacket to earn the ACC weekly rookie honor this season. Mo Bennett was named ACC Rookie of the Week on Nov. 17, 2008.
Maryland’s Kristi Toliver was tabbed the ACC Player of the Week. Toliver averaged 15 points, 5.5 assists, 2.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals in a pair of Terrapin wins last week.
The Yellow Jackets will hit the road this Wednesday as they travel to Savannah State for a 7 p.m. meeting at Tiger Arena.
