Georgia Tech Women's Basketball Invites Fans to Pink Zone Sunday

Feb. 5, 2009

Letter from Coach Joseph

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team is participating in The WBCA Pink ZoneTM on Sun., Feb. 8, and invites fans to help the fight against breast cancer at the game against NC State. In addition to honoring the late NC State head coach Kay Yow, the event will feature numerous ways for fans to contribute.

The Yellow Jackets will don pink uniforms and pink shoe laces to show their support. Fans are asked to wear pink as well and those who do, can purchase a ticket for only $2.

Tech will provide the first 1,000 fans pink rally towels and the first 250 fans through the door a mini basketball. Tech representatives will have hats, visors and pink ribbons for sale to help raise money for the cause. There will also be a raffle for an opportunity to win a basketball signed by Tech head coach MaChelle Joseph.

The Jackets will also take donations for a new initiative called “Score 4 the Cure”. This will allow fans to pledge per point or make a single donation. The halftime show will include a performance by Velocity Flight Crew, a four-man dunking show.

The women’s basketball program will also announce the winner’s of the “Chow 4 Yow” initiative. The winner’s will be treated to a day at the Georgia Tech Athletic Association, including a tour of the GTAA, a behind-the-scenes look at the day-to-day operations of Georgia Tech athletics, and enjoy a lunch with Joseph in the GTAA cafeteria. All proceeds will benefit the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer FundTM.

The WBCA Pink ZoneTM initiative is a global, unified effort for the WBCA’s nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer FundTM is the sole charity beneficiary of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). Last year, Georgia Tech women’s basketball collected nearly $3,500 for breast cancer research.
