Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

THE FLATS – Four Yellow Jackets made the cut at last weekend’s Safeway Open, including Web.com grads Roberto Castro and Seth Reeves … Matt Kuchar stays across the pond after the Ryder Cup … Two former Jackets begin quests to qualify for Web.com Tour this week … This and more in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

Richy Werenski, Cameron Tringale, Roberto Castro and Seth Reeves all made the cut in last weekend’s Safeway Open in Napa, Calif. Werenski was the Jackets’ highest finisher, tying for 33rd place at 282 (-6) in a solid start to his third PGA Tour campaign. Tringale, who struggled last season but regained his PGA Tour card through the Web.com Finals, tied for 46th place at 284 (-4), while Castro, who earned back his PGA Tour card by placing 24th in earnings on the Web.com Tour in 2018, tied for 53rd at 285 (-3). Reeves, whose charge in the Web.com Finals landed him on the PGA Tour, tied for 69th at 289 (+1).

Anders Albertson did not make the cut in the first start of his rookie season, along with Chesson Hadley and Albertson’s Tech teammate Ollie Schniederjans.

Matt Kuchar remained overseas last weekend following the Ryder Cup to compete in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which was played at three classic Scottish courses – the Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns – and the U.S. vice-captain tied for 28th place and earned 37,780 Euros.

Three Jackets – Stewart Cink, Hadley and Schniederjans – are in the limited field for this weekend’s CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The PGA Tour plays two of its fall events in Asia, this week’s event and the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges next week in Korea, before coming back to the United States for the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Miss.

Web.com Tour:  J.T. Griffin, who earned more than $20,000 in five late starts on the Web.com Tour this summer, easily made it through the first stage of qualifying last week, tying for 12th place (279, -9) at Highland Oaks Golf Club in Dothan, Ala. Paul Haley, who has competed on the Adams Pro Tour this summer, rallied over the final 36 holes to tie for 20th and also advance.

Vincent Whaley and Chris Petefish are set to compete in first stage qualifying this week (Oct. 9-12) at the Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C., while Drew Czuchry is entered in the qualifier at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.

They are two of seven first stage events that take place this week. Second stage events take place in early November, with the Q-school finals set for Dec. 6-9 in Chandler, Ariz.

Elsewhere: Shun Yat Hak, a member of Georgia Tech’s 2013 team, stands 38th on the PGA Tour China Order of Merit with one event left on the 2018 schedule.
