Eleventh Heaven:
With its third straight victory over Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech is now 11-0 at home this season, 12-0 including a win over Virginia in last year’s finale. That’s the second-longest home winning streak for the Jackets under coach MaChelle Joseph. Tech won 18 straight in Alexander from Jan. 4, 2007 – Jan. 13, 2008.
Three Jackets scored 11 points apiece Sunday, including Deja Foster. For the junior guard from Memphis, it was her fourth double-figure game in a row – each time with 11 points. Center Sasha Goodlett also had 11, as did Alex Montgomery – all in the first half in just 10 minutes of playing time highlighted by Montgomery’s three 3-pointers.
The fourth Jacket in double-figures? Who else? Brigitte Ardossi finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. She has now scored in double-figures in 16 straight games (all seven ACC contests) and 21 of 23 games this season.
At the Line:
Ardossi, who entered the game as the top free-throw shooter in the ACC at 82.2 per cent, increased her lead by making all five foul shots. She’s now 93-for-112, an even 83.0.
By the Numbers:
Guard Mo Bennett grabbed nine rebounds, just missing her fourth double-figure rebounding game this season. She made two of Tech’s 10 steals and helped hound Virginia Tech into 1-for-10 shooting from the 3-point line and 30.5 percent (18-for-59) overall.
