ATLANTA – Sonja Mallory made the most of her first career start Sunday and led the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to a 79-62 win over the Dartmouth Big Green at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Mallory, a 6-4 sophomore center, posted career highs with 18 points and 13 rebounds as she tallied her first career double-double.
Led by Mallory, who scored eight of Tech’s first 10 points, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 12-2 lead and never looked back. The Yellow Jackets led by as many as 24 points in the second half and cruised to the victory over Dartmouth.
Five players scored in double figures for Georgia Tech, led by sophomore Niesha Butler’s 21 points. Butler has scored at least 20 points in each of the last three games. Junior Milli Martinez scored 12 points while sophomore Alex Stewart and freshman Fallon Stokes added 10 apiece.
Sophomore Katie Skelly led the Big Green with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Katharine Hanks scored 14 points and Samantha Berdinka added 11 in the losing effort.
Georgia Tech improved to 4-3 and travels to New York for a two-game trip = this week. The Yellow Jackets play at Wagner on Dec. 19 and at Hofstra on Dec. 21. Dartmouth, which fell to 1-6, plays at Georgia tomorrow.
